David Cameron in Luton
Monday, June 29, 2009

David Cameron held a 'Cameron Direct' event at the Riverside Conference Centre in Luton last night attended by about 200 local residents.

This was the 43rd such town hall style, question and answer event that David Cameron has held in marginal seats
up and down the country.  David kicked off the meeting by saying he was aware that Luton is a reliable bellwether
town that has voted for the party that forms the government at every election in the last 60 years.
He said "It is for Luton to decide whether or not I become the next Prime Minister."

The meeting was attended by residents from across the diverse Luton community and Mr Cameron commented on how pleased he was that the attendees represented such a cross section of Luton society.

European Election Results - Conservative Gains Vote Share, Labour Losing, Luton Going Blue
Monday, June 08, 2009

The Conservative Party were the only major political party to see its share of the vote grow in last night’s European Election count in Luton as Labour and the Lib Dems lost support.

There was no question which party was smiling when the results were declared as the Conservative Party were just 964 votes behind Labour, despite key Conservative wards in Luton not being included in the Borough count and despite big votes for protest parties that tend to go with the Conservatives nationally.

It was a night of misery for Labour. We were under 1,000 votes behind Labour across Luton Borough which shows a remarkable increase in Conservative support in Luton.

We know that at a General Election, a lot of those people who voted for protest parties last night will put their trust in us, in the knowledge that only the Conservatives can beat Labour in Luton.
